Huh.

Ig how Americans think will forever remain a mystery to me then.

tbh, me neither, even though I live there

someone could do it bc they look up to another race tbh, the fact that so many Americans get triggered over it baffles me.
Like if a white kid looks up to a black rapper and wears his hair like the rapper, he'll get hated for "cultural appropriation" even though outside of America many ppl would take that as a compliment

Hmm.. maybe ig.
But tbh, the dressing up as a black rapper thing is def acceptable for me

ye
idk why ppl get triggered over stuff like that in America
like a bunch of white ppl were calling the Redskins name (an NFL team) racist to Native Americans, and some Native Americans started making articles like "dear white ppl, please stop trying to tell natives like me whether we should be offended by the name Redskins", like literally white ppl were more offended than the actual native Americans. Similar things have happened with Mexicans, where some white guy dressed up in some Mexican attire, got railed by whites for being racist, but actually went to Mexico and they thought he looked cool.

Like it seems like folks these days don't know how to take a compliment bc we're trained to get offended over everything. Like if you wanted to be friends and did something nice to me and I got offended, I'd just be being a jerk. Thats kinda how ppl are these days tho.

I wish ppl's core idea would be to just be nice when you are interacting with someone you don't know. Like maybe don't assume everyone is out to offended you and you might find you'll make a lot more friends in this world. This generation has a lot of loneliness and frankly I'm not too surprised.

but ig there should kind of be a limit, like if some guy decided to dress up in Asian costume and starts saying racist things like "ching chong, I eat dog" and stuff. That actually is offensive, and I've heard of stuff like that being done. When I posted that one gay flag pointing meme, I noticed some people were actually quick to call me a "dog eater," and I just kind of went with the joke because I know that this is MSMG and people make offensive jokes all the time and he was probably just joking for attention, didn't really laugh but I just let it be. But I wouldn't really wanna be called a dog eater irl because that's just downright racist and at that point, you're just kind of an asshole to make a racist joke about Asians in front of an Asian irl.

And honestly, people who say they like Asian culture are a lot more offensive. Take the American weeaboos and K-pop fans for example, these are the kind of people you wouldn't want to be, because they say shit like "we love Asian culture!" when the only Asian culture they know are the East Asian countries, big-eyed, colorful-haired, light-skinned, fictional people, and K-pop boys and girls. But ask them to name at least one Southeast Asian/West Asian country or at least one popular Southeast Asian/West Asian singer and they can't even think of an answer. They end up sexualizing Asians and actually doing real cultural appropriation.

But a good example of respecting Asian culture would be if someone actually dressed up in Asian costume, but not to disrespect Asians but to celebrate their culture. Like in the Betty Boop cartoon from the 1930s where Betty Boop wore a Japanese costume and sang in Japanese. For some reason, I love watching Betty Boop because I love vintage things and her voice is really cute. For me, if some person wore a barong or a baro't saya but said it wasn't for any racist intent, I'd be ok with it.

Now, with NFL thing, idk. I'm not Native American, nor do I like football, I don't even know how that works and shit. Idk, idc. But if Native Americans approve of it, then go right ahead. Also, I have also heard that the Redskins' logo was designed by a Native American, so yeah, ig that's good.

I'm not too familiar with that name but that sounds cool.
Thats good. A lot of Americans would get offended over it tho. I was just talking today with someone about how a guy from England moved to Japan and after 7 years of living there decided to try a barong and Americans flipped out over it but he was trying it with his Japanese friends. If the guy was so racist why did he move there and get involved in the culture?
Its a complicated problem and I definitely think ppl get too angry before they find out people's actual motivations. If you're doing something for racist reasons, that's a problem. But don't assume ppl are doing that without context. I find that a lot of times if you just simply ask someone if they meant something in an offensive way, you'll find a lot less villains in the world.
Ik someone (a black person) who went to South Korea and came back and said everyone there was racist bc they all looked at him funny but he never bothered to ask why they were laughing or if they were even laughing at him. He just assumed.

yea tbh I'm not really into the NFL either, I like college football more. But I heard about the Redskins drama bc they got bullied into changing their name, so for a year they were known as the Football Team, and now they're the Commanders. I thought it was a lame problem so I saw multiple opinions on it (I wish ppl did that more too, bc we as humans don't know everything). But yeah, a Native American can design something and somehow it turns out to be appropriation. This made no sense to me. It's like, how do ppl get paid to write news articles (full on NFL articles) and not know basic info that two kids who don't even care for the NFL just happened to have found out by hearing? I mean, some reporters were alive when that happened. It's just sad.

yeah honestly idk where the balance should be bc comedy also exists and comedy is often offensive. But ppl directly harassing specific people isn't exactly good. We do it a lot on msmg bc we're kinda over ppl getting triggered over everything tho

well thats honestly the fault of the education system. I myself am a k-pop and k-drama fan (and ik many anime fans), and I know of many Asian countries but thats bc I was educated in geography very well. (And I can name many Korean actors and actresses and say which ones i like more tbh). I don't think it's racist tho to specifically pay attention to a specific people group who's music and TV you like. People from other countries may like white music better than black music, or vice versa, or Mexican better than both, but may not think of all races in America at the time. Is that really racist?
About anime, they all don't look real and ppl simp for them bc they're drawn most likely by men who draw girls to be overly sexualized and overly attractive. The American comic industry works like this too. I don't think this is right, but this is how comic drawers attract viewers so why would they stop?
But I will say, as a k-drama fan and someone who knows a lot of ppl who love anime, the draw to both is that they're really great at storytelling. Modern American stories are insufferable, repetitive, and just downright uninteresting. They make remakes bc they have little creativity these days and they change stuff around and call people evil for saying they desecrated our childhood. Anime and k-dramas are not doing this, so many Americans find them more entertaining. Its a compliment to the writers there. We like them more than we like our own writers, who just suck these days.

I don't really think it's the K-drama that's problematic, I think it's just some really cringy people in the fandoms. I've heard of one guy named Oli London who's obsessed with K-Pop and legit "identifies as Korean" even though he's British, he also gets a lot of plastic surgery to look like some K-pop idol and tries to teach Korean except he actually doesn't know any Korean and always gets it wrong.

Ahh yes, that guy. I've heard about him before bc some ppl I follow mocked the heck outta it. That's really only a thing bc of ppl indulging in delusions. People are actually becoming trans-racial, trans-autistic, and even trans-blind. I don't think it's really a racist problem as much as it is just being weird obsessed and kinda insane. That guy is just a wild simp who is so obsessed with someone who would never know he exists unless he did something radical, and so that's how he tried to get her attention. Some creeps go far and beyond to get attention of ppl. Seven years ago in Orlando some creep killed an up and coming singer he idolized. It wasn't racist (she was Italian), it was plain ridiculous and his idiocy resulted in tragedy.
