Lithuania. it was under imperial Russian control from 1875-1918. it was independent of 1918-1940, and the first SOVIET occupation was (about) 1939-1941. from 1941-1944 it was occupied by the nazis due to operation Barbarossa. Summer of 1944, the red army marched itself into eastern Lithuania and decided that it was under soviet control. the soviet PERIOD was from 1944-1990, but the soviet ERA was from 1953-1988. On March 11, 1990, they were finally independent of the soviet union, but it would still be a problem until the end of 1991. On August 31, 1993, the Russians had fully withdrawn from Lithuania.
