i have more emotional attachment (and bias) to SMG2 because it was my 1st ever 3d mario game
but SMG1 is still an incredible game and both entries still hold up today as great experiences

As someone who played Smg1

Smg2 is way better. Both are absolutely PHENOMENAL, but Galaxy 2 had much more innovation. Like I love the comet observatory but it was a bit bare-bones, something that Galaxy 2 fixed by having Starship Mario be a very lively place filled with stuff and secrets.
