Above Battalion's logo resembles a black "wolfsangel", a symbol that was used by some Nazi units and is seen by critics as neo-Nazi. The Azov say the logo represents the letters N and I of "national idea" and deny it is neo-Nazi.
In 2015, a spokesman for the Azov brigade told USA Today that 10% to 20% of the group’s members are Nazis. To which today, some say the ultra-nationalist, neo-Nazi leanings of the Azov regiment have become less prevalent.
