I have some complaints about the company releasing the same game every year except for Legends Arceus is the first innovative game in years and years. They all have very similar mechanics and even share stories to a degree making people like me who have played every game in the franchise a bit tired of them trying to match graphics made by games like MGR in 2013. The only real addition in the new games is shading and lag. The lag is because the switch uses a processing unit also found in an android laptop 8 years ago making some games unplayable. All while remixing old features and not giving ones we cared about like mega evolution back because of old imbalances in power and stats and Gamefreak not caring about tiers like Smogon. When Mega Rayquaza was released it made a whole tier unplayable so they added the Anything Goes tier above Ubers. All game freak does for the competitive players in Pokemon is change which pokemon are banned for a season. And that is just hitting the tip of the iceberg. Pokemon like Necrozma suffer from not being able to do what makes them special in the new games because of the removal of gimmicks (like Z-Moves) which ruins a cool or fun pokemon. They have also started to fall into that footprint like COD where churning out a game every single year (or multiple like 2022) has lowered quality and optimization.

The franchise is only going further downhill. Even their merchandise is growing ridiculous in its attempt to appeal to a foreign audience. Exhibit A: The Sterling fountain pens. These $599 pens are available on the Pokemon Center's website and are a disgrace. They are just collective pens with Pokemon on them. They have no originality and the artist that made them was relying on the name Pokemon Company International to sell the product. Exhibit B: Bear Walker Skateboards. These are products relying on an old trend from last year to sell. They are $249 each and a scam. They are just vanilla wooden skateboards and a disgrace. They are also trying less and less with new pokemon falling into the "Digimon-esque" category of having too many moving parts and too much going on. And some pokemon are beloved and neglected for seemingly no reason. They have harsh punishments such as account suspension for obtaining pokemon illegally and then make the competitive scene impossible to work with seeing as one pokemon needs 10 hours of grinding cash and experience. This could be remedied by hacking software that causes no harm but is considered dangerous and foreign by Gamefreak. They also shut down projects made by fans who love the franchise because they are apparently unfamiliar with the term "Fair use". The only game that is doing anything new and fresh consistently is Pokemon GO which was designed to indoctrinate people into the larger multimedia franchise. As it is right now it's the only game with plans to have a complete national dex at all times and is beginning to become pay-to-play. This is without touching on the fact that they are disconnected witn their fans and don't realise the horrid products and games they are making.

This is without mentioning the disgrace that the anime is. The anime displays innumerable accounts of acts that cannot even begin to be matched in-game such as the usage of two moves at once. It brings in the idea of false expectations for the games and attracts the wrong audience primarily consisting of people who will complain about such things. This is an issue as the fanbase is rotten to the core with people making drawings of the characters in an inappropriate manner. It consists of multiple people who use it to target children and others that will use it as a place to vent out the frustration that could be better put somewhere else. The only real saving grace of the anime is that after 25 years Ash Ketchum will finally be kicked out and the story will follow new characters.

In closing, I speak from a place of love and concern for the franchise. They are beginning to fall into unpleasant trends that other companies have begun to succumb to. I have followed Pokemon since the ripe age of three years old and want them to be a success in the many industries that they are part of.
