I'm actually disabled, because I've been diagnosed with Autism since a very young age and autism is actually a disability (even the NDIS recognises Autism as one)...
What is the NDIS?
The National Disability Insurance Scheme.
Does autism qualify for NDIS funding?
To qualify for NDIS funding, a person’s impairment may be neurological, sensory, physical, psychosocial, intellectual or cognitive. Generally speaking, autism does qualify for NDIS funding. However, each person is assessed on the level of ASD for which they are assessed. The level of ASD is what determines how much funding they may be able to access through the NDIS.
Why is Autism considered a disability.
Just because one's disabled doesn't mean they are physically disabled. Many people who are disabled are mentally disabled and some of them are so high functioning that they are barely noticed as a "disability". To which calling a person a disability is dehumanising a person because they are not seen as a person.
