They look more like knives, and throwing knives or shuriken would be easier to throw then swords
Shuriken would be more practical, the purpose of a shuriken is to provide a painful distraction rather than do any real harm. Poison tipped shurikens would provide a distraction and probably kill or harm an opponent too
