My theory is that the imgflip couples are usually a 14-16 year old male pretending to be a 16-19 male, and another 14-16 year old male pretending to be an 11-13 year old female

Well… if the couples involve real 11-13 year old girls it’s pretty sketchy. On the other hand, if they never meet, it could be a relatively harmless way for young girls to attract male attention. ONLY if they never meet and no inappropriate requests are made or potential blackmail material is given or sought.
