ANALYZING THE LYRICS OF DEMON DAYS, PT 2., LAST LIVING SOULS (CONTINUED, I couldn't fit it all in one comment.)
I think this is going with the theme of isolation, as I said yesterday with Intro. But rather than just being the last two people on earth, I think it means people aren't living their lives naturally anymore.
We begin with the question, "Are we the last living souls?"
And that's an amazing question.
We probably are.
The world is full of crime. Damon Albarn (Voice of 2-D, the lead singer of Gorillaz), brings up a gun as an example.
"That's no way / To behave," he sings as a comment on it all.
"Sing a song, that doesn't sin", is probably a metaphor saying not to live a life that's a lie.
As for the repeat of "Get up" towards the middle of the song, it's telling you to get up. Do something with your life. Stop staring at that screen of yours. Learn how to love.
"The coldest man doesn't see it all," probably means we have no idea what we're doing to the world. But once again, back to yesterday's analysis of Intro, the world is going downhill because of us. We complain about it, and yet, do nothing.
With each generation of humans comes less and less love, and more and more sin.
And the ending of the song confirms what was asked in the beginning lines.
"'Cause we're the last living souls
We're the last living souls
Yeah we're the last living souls
We're the last living souls"
This whole album is a journey through a world gone wrong, almost a dystopian society, even, and this song is the perfect way to begin when it comes to the question, "Why?"
Note: Thinking on this, we are already living in a dystopian society. The world has gone wrong. Thanks to my English class and this album, I've realized that.
