Rodan's blood is like magma, so Gyaos probably isn't trying to eat Rodan, it's probably an attempt to take over his territory. Gyaos has a size advantage.

Until now, he was. Kong is approaching Gyaos's location. High levels of radiation are near Kong, so we can assume either Godzilla is with him, he's bringing his axe or both.
