since sunny accidentally killed mari, basil saw and made it look like mari hung herself
sunny had to watch basil as he did that
for most of the game it's headspace and as the game progresses Mari starts to basically haunt him
implying her "suicide", like something's design
you'll see something (the black ghost lookin mf) that comes around more often, in the real world sunny and hero will see mari
also when you pass that t r e e
plus the hangman thing
sunny's mental health being worse than it would've been if they got someone to help and basil didn't do such a shitty thing
