i've not played the new games yet but from my experience i'd go with legends arceus and then at a later time you could buy violet

If you have to buy just one, id buy violet. Its kinda buggy, but they’ll get that patched soon enough and the bugs are more funny than annoying. If your trying to get back into pokemon, its better to start with the violet than PLA because PLA’s mechanics are so much more different than any other main series game. Also, SV are just a lot more fun. PLA is AMAZING, but so far SV are giving it a real run for its money to become my new favorite pokemon game.
