So we'd been hearing about this terrifying snowstorm that was gonna pound us all throughout Southern Ohio for about a week. We'd done our stuff to prepare, getting out our gas fireplace, since we thought the amount of snow and ice was gonna put the power out and we were gonna need heat.
But it wasn't just going to snow, it was going to sleet as well. For those of you who might not know, sleet is kind of like a type of snow that falls like rain, not all floaty and stuff. It's usually like really tiny hail, but too small to be considered hail. If you manage to grab any, you'll notice that it has a similar consistency to beach sand on the US Atlantic coast.
So that, they decided to call off school because of the anticipated horrible road conditions that would take all day to clear. That afternoon, after school had let out, it began to sleet. Not like the sleet we're used to, but the kind that piles up like snow. It was kind of strange to go out there, considering we were essentially getting pelted with what felt like hard, dry snow.
Walking on the stuff felt like walking on sand, and if you tried to make a snowball, it would just fall apart, just like sand.
Sometime overnight, it stopped sleeting, and started snowing. We got somewhere between 3 and 5 or 6 inches of snow, I can't remember exactly. This snow allowed the two or so inches of sleet to solidify into one solid layer.
So the next morning, we essentially had this hill with a ton of snow AND and icy layer underneath, which proved great for sledding
The driveway was hell to shovel though; we couldn't actually get through the ice until after we left salt on it for six hours, the whole time it was snowing
