You should try to look at some transition colors
Like, the blue mixing with red can make pretty sick purple shadows and highlight!

But on some lighting situations , subtle shades are better!
Also keeping focus on the lighting source
Looking at your drawing, the light source is coming from the top middle, so the places you shaded are pretty accurate
