We’re calling it the Grand Draft Championship, or the GDC for short. We all drafted 10 pokemon, 2 from Uber, OU, UU, RU, and NU tiers. Each week, with the exception of one player who has a bye, we’ll do round robin style until everybody has battled everyone. In each battle, we take 4 of our ten in a doubles custom game on showdown. After the main round robin battles, top 8 players go to bracket. The twist is that the specific team of 4 pokemon you bring to one specific battle cannot be brought to any other battle. So if i bring a Cinderace, Necrozma, Buzzwole, and Drapion to week one, i cannot bring those 4 pokemon on the same team again, but i can do Cinderace, Necrozma, Tangrowth, and Drapion, because the team is different. The team I drafted is:
Cinderace: one of my favorite pokemon and a really good pokemon overall with Libero. I dont like that one of my two Uber picks weren’t a legendary, but Dynamax is banned, so i wont have to worry about Dynamax options. I named it Peter after my first Cinderace in SwSh.
Necrozma Dusk-Mane: I wanted a legendary from Uber, and dragon dance is awesome. Pair that with Sunsteel Strike, physical Photon Geyser, and Earthquake (if the partner is flying type or protecting) and you got a really good sweeper. I named it Leslie after my girlfriends cat
Tapu Koko: how is this pokemon in OU? It is genuinely broken, especially when paired with electric terrain, volt switch, specs. Named Tiki Man.
Corviknight: another pokemon I genuinely love that i used in SwSh, and mirror armor can be fun, and really helps as an Incineroar counter. Named Arthur, after King Arthur.
Regieleki: the biggest problem going into the draft was that I couldn’t get Zacian. Regieleki is my personal favorite counter to Zacian, because life orb, thunderbolt transistor Eleki almost always OHKOs Zacian. Named Zazzz after the Marel character
Tangrowth: I. LOVE. TANGROWTH. Big root+leech seed+ingrain+infestation+giga drain= pissed off opponents. Named Terry after a Tangrowth i used in Platinum.
Umbreon: Tangrowth is really bulky because of healing. Umbreon is just bulky. That plus toxic and wish and you have some very sad tanks. Named Celine after the moon goddess.
Togekiss: Thunder wave+Air slash+extrasensory+serene grace=PARAHAX. Named Tojepi MAX.
Talonflame: very underrated in my opinion. Priority tailwind (when Talonflame is full hp) is amazing. That plus roost can be very helpful. Named Phoenix.
