why does the day matter?

Because Monday to Friday is the standard workweek in many occupations.

The reason it's Tuesday is a relic of the days when the voting class would need three days round trip to travel to their voting district. They'd travel on Monday, vote on the Tuesday, return home Wednesday.

That is very very very not needed anymore, and only serves now as a complication for people who can't get the time off work to stand in line and vote.

It’s a federal law that you be allowed to take time off to vote. You can also mail it in. There is absolutely no reason for anyone to claim they were not allowed to vote, that isn’t either lying, or just too lazy to make the effort.

Yeah but guess what? People who have Saturday off would have to do nothing at all. It's a small fix that would have a major impact on people's lives.

The one being lazy here is the government for not doing it.

Not everyone is off on Saturday…why should they not get the same argument you are trying to make for Tuesday workers. I’m not giving up watching college football on a Saturday just because Cletus is too lazy to vote anny other day. Again, there isn’t a single soul that is being kept from voting, regardless of day.
