While a Image Hosting site by the same name existed in 2008, The Imgflip.com domain has later expired, and was deleted, thus causing the registration date to reset. Since it was deleted from the original owner, anyone could purchase the domain now. So Dylan, which founded the Imgflip Meme Generator, bought the domain in 2011.
