I completly understand the merch lol (I’ll take it :P) and I also would experience the same problem coming out as trans. Honestly, I would just stay out as gender fluid at school, it wouldn't be that hard. Your partner will defiantly understand, and be supportive so don’t worry. I was also scared to tell my ex, but I told her I use he/they and she was fine with it. Listen, I have the same problem
