Try holding a shield up when you go through, so the mobs hit the shield instead of your player.

Edit: Now the game crashes whenever I try to go through a portal?

Now it crashed when I tried to load the game. Then when it finally let me in, everything is invisible except floating magma cubes.

wait five minutes or pause your game and wait for everything to load

SO I HAVE A PROBLEM, I CAN'T GO THROUGH MY PORTAL BECAUSE THERE ARE MONSTERS ON THE OTHER SIDE, AND THEY KILL ME WHILE THE WORLD IS LOADING.
