except the avengers weren’t technically even founded until Nick Fury got the name idea from Carol Danvers’ callsign ‘Avenger’, so although both are the “oldest avengers”, neither is actually the “First Avenger”

Yeah but Carol wasn't on Earth when Fury began the Avengers initiative, meaning that she never associated with the Avengers until she came back to Earth in the events of Endgame. The order they came in was Hawkeye, Black Widow (We know Hawkeye came first because in the Avenger Natasha talks about him sparing her), Cap, Tony, Banner, Thor. (Thor, Banner, and Tony did heroism on Earth in their solo movies but none of them actually joined the Avengers until the 2012 movie).

Well you could say that Hawkeye didn’t necessarily join the Avengers before the rest; he had just been a part of SHIELD when he was sent on the mission to rescue Black Widow.
