Yes
At least in the US, it is infringement upon rights guaranteed to us in the US Declaration of Independence and the 14th Amendment of the US Constitution. It effectively takes away our rights to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness by taking away our ability to live a life outside of school

I agree it's an infringement on my rights to relax with a glass of wine in the evening having to grade all those papers!

I can only imagine how hard it would be to grade all those papers in one night
I'm so glad I'm not a teacher

I think homework is needed. But I do think that a lot of teachers give too much.
Why do you give none?

Kids are in school on average 7 hours a day. Some kids spend up to 10 hours if they go to before and after school care. Thats like a full 40 hour workweek that an adult has but these are children, not employees. Most adults leave their work at the office or wherever their job is, they should not be expected to bring extra work home to complete in order to get paid or be a good employee. I believe that if a teacher structures her lesson well enough there is plenty of time during a 45-90 minute class to teach a skill, have the students practice and then have independent work IN THE CLASSROOM. My philosophy is they can still get this independent practice done sometime during those 7-10 hours they're at school so they can live their lives, spend time with family and be kids at home.

Granted there will be times when there is an upcoming test, report or project that kids need time to do outside of school but this should not be the norm. I find most of homework is busy work. Is it good practice, sure, but if its taking an additional 2-3 hours to complete and the child is just frustrated and resentful that defeats the purpose. I let kids use the last part of my classes to do homework, if they listen and pay attention it means more free time for all of us. If they don't have work to catch up on,
It means an extra recess. It's a good motivator for them to try harder. 90% of teaching is probably just managing bad behaviour and that wastes a lot of time.

I completely disagree with you. In some cases, students may mess around in class, or whatever, and they wont learn what they were supposed to. In addition, at my school, we do some long projects, that take 3+ months, including countless hours spent working on it at home. Without the work at home, these would take more like 7 months.

Also, what grade are you referring to? Because all through elementary school I got no homework, and agree with that.

I addressed each of those points you brought up. If students don't waste time goofing off there is more time for learning, I said studying for tests and projects would be an exception, loads of work every night shouldn't be the norm. And I'm talking prek-8. I've seen teachers give freaking 4 year olds homework. I was in 2nd grade and would have to eat in my room while I was doing homework otherwise I would have been up until 10pm. Thats ridiculous. High school and college, homework is pretty much a given.

I’m talking about long projects though.

Then open your own school without homework, no need to get the state involved more in education.

I mean I guess that's what homeschool is for. Although technically your whole day would be homework. Lol

Some homeschoolers still follow a schedule and whatever schoolwork they didn't finish in a given amount of time they leave for later as "homework".

A homeschool day is typically much shorter than a traditional school setting. I could pretty much get the work that took me 6 hours at school done in 4 at home. Having homework is pretty rare, but there's the occasional research paper or project. Homeschooled kids don't have to worry about the non educational stuff like transportation, going classroom to classroom, waiting in lunch line, waiting for 20 other kids to listen so the teacher can get on with the lesson already.

Uhhh, kinda? Homework is rare when you homeschool but also all the work is homework. Lol.

You want everyone to be homeschooled to avoid "homework"?
