She's no more important in the universe and grand scheme of things than the homeless man dying alone. The fact that we can basically worship some individuals by the mere fact they were born at a certain time and place and ignore others is what's wrong with humanity.

You don't have to care, but she was an important and impressive monarch

“You don't have to care” good. I’ll care about a member of the royal family dying when a royal cares about a member of my family dying.

“Important and impressive monarch” meaning one who pacifies the masses in order to perpetuate their subjugation and exploitation. Come to think of it that is probably a necessary role in a society.

There is no pacification of the masses
You have to understand that the monarch holds no real power. Officially, yes, they can dissolve parliament or appoint a random person as prime minister, but if they get involved in politics at all, people ask "Who put you in charge?".
So, in reality, the royals do not exploit society in any way. They have no political power but delegate it the officials who "Just so happened" to be elected.
They are paid a salary by parliament but surrender profits from their lands to them. The profit is the higher figure, so even without tourism and branding they are good for the economy.
And, frankly, in tough times, they are always there and offer reassurance.
There is no subjugation and exploitation here except charging American tourists ridiculous prices for silly little trinkets

I meant pacify in the way a mother pacifies an infant: to allay the anger or agitation of. In doing so the citizenry continue to be productive in the larger economy of making wealthy people wealthier. It is possible I am not familiar with how capitalism works in the UK.

That is not the role of the royals. They give people hope when times are tough simply because it's what people need to hear.
A classic example is WW2:
The royals would often have broadcasts of them speaking words of encouragement so that the nation would keep on fighting. They were also involved in the war effort.
This is crucial to understanding them. It is a ridiculously stressful job, and you serve your subjects, not the other way round. George VI died shortly after WW2 ended. Elizabeth II died not even a year after her husband. Her and her sister were taught that Edward VIII was a failure because he neglected his duties to pursue love. Monarchy is not somehow a privilege. It is the unbelievably difficult job of keeping a nation fighting in dark times with great rewards

Sometimes I take my cynicism too far. I’m willing to concede that you make good points.
