The Kauai o’o was a species of bird in Hawaii that went extinct in 1987. A hurricane ravaged the island of Kauai around that time and it’s habitat was destroyed. In 1987, a scientist went to Kauai and recorded the last recording of the bird. It was a lone male’s mating call for a female that would never come.
