Because it’s operating under the version of socialism that most western socialists don’t like: communism!

Communism is Socialism but just the authoritarian type. Socialist principles have operated well in certain places like Rojava, a semi-anarchist socialist community located in Syria. It’s conditions are much better than the other places in the nation and has been running successfully since 2013. It’s not perfect but it’s considered the most democratic and human rights respecting people places in the entire country of Syria.

In Syria lol...that's not saying much. However you'll notice that "socialism" (bc it's a broad term) only works on a community level. Any larger and the savings and benefits get consumed by bureaucracy , office, and human fault. That's the key, keeping it local. If socialism worked on a large scale, places like NY and LA, or Chicago would be dirt cheap.....but obviously you find the opposite.
