That's gonna be me in about 5 years or less. I'm thinking of retirement soon and when that happens I won't have much to live on.

When the government thinks old uncle Sam can live off 860 a month because he worked for a employer who got away with not paying into social security, and minimum wage earner make less than high income earners, creating a benefit discrepancy... Like if it really was social security, you would think everyone would make the same regarding hours on the credits earned vs income earned, because not everyone is paid the same... Or works the same type of job, socialism means everyone gets the same, but Americas socialism program doesn't operate like that.

In a free country this is normal. It is not a problem. The problem is when people are not taught to educate themselves and get the necessary skills to improve their lives then you get people accepting a minimum wage thinking they cannot do any better.

I am not rich but I never graduated from college with a BS. However I pushed myself with a goal of learning how to write software. I did take several college courses but I also pushed myself to learn on my own. I am not some kind of over achiever, I was just worried about not being able to support myself, a wife and a family. I didn't start off earning very much as a programmer. It really wasn't much more than what the current minimum wage is right now. But I didn't give up.

Over 30 years later I am earning a comfortable living but I am not even close to be considered rich.

This is because I am a boomer. Teaching kids to prepare to support themselves and to try to achieve because they need to support themselves isn't encouraged as much in later generations. Consequently we have people who don't know what to do with themselves and the gravitate to whatever is the easiest. Also Marxism has saturated our society over the last century and now people are complaining that the minimum wage isn't enough to live on. Duh!!! It was never intended to a living wage. It was created (by the left) as a wage for high school and college students to live on while attending school. That's it. It was never meant to be anything more than that.

If you are trying to support yourself on a minimum wage then that is entirely your own fault. And quit running to the government just because you can't figure out how to run your life. There is one thing governments are exceptionally well at, telling you how to run your life. They crave that kind of power over your life. They want nothing more to run every facet of your life.

As far as Social Security goes, it was a scam. When it was created the life expectancy averaged about 40 years old. It made the government look benevolent and gave the government a slush fund that they immediately started raiding. But then the baby boom happened and the life expectancy kept getting longer and longer. Now the government pays out more than SS takes in. And still they raid the SS funds to spend however they want. SS is a joke. If you invested the money the government stole, you would have a much better retirement.

The program was set in place way after some 80 year old today started working. It is a program that helps widows who lost their husband or wife. It is a program that protects the disabled and the people challenged. It's a safety net for the factory worker who got their leg mangled at work, or the car accident victim who was injured by someone who had no insurance. So many situation besides retirement. But still the fact is it has it's flaws, and the more money other people make causes more dire hardships for people who rely and are stuck living on social security.

It's a Ponzi scheme. People who try to live on SS have to take meaningless jobs just to be able to survive. Like you said, "it helps" but it is never enough to cover all living expenses.

One of it's major flaws is that it is going bankrupt. It pays out more than it takes in. The other major flaw is that, just like all government programs, is far less effective in helping those who need it than if that person had invested the money in the stock market.

It is yet another government boondoggle. It is just another source of money that congressmen and senators steal from on a regular basis, regardless of party affiliation.

The biggest flaw is shelling it out to citizens who were not born in America. If you have to be born in America tor run for president, than maybe you should have to be born in America to drawl social security.

Natural born citizens mean nothing to the government.

I agree with both of those comments.
