I've always wondered when and why did it change from slam dancing to mosh pit. Was there always a mosh pit and I just never heard of it or was there someone somewhere who decided it needed to be called a mosh pit sometime in the early 90's.

Or is slam dancing from punk and mosh from metal?

I tend to overthink the trivial at bit too much. I was never a punk rock or metal guy back in the 80's. I was a new wave nerd. No one slam danced to Devo or Oingo Boingo.

Slam dancing was more of a punk thing. Metal heads made it a pit of mass humanity. I have been in both and the mosh pit is better.

Punk kind of fizzled out by the end of the 80's but has come back a few times. Metal has always been around and just morphs into new versions of metal. I only know that because my two nephews are big time metal heads and they both play guitar. One is in a sort of band. They live in different parts of the country but each contributes remotely. They are no where even close to being famous but maybe one day. I need him to get mega rich so he can support me in the lifestyle that I would very much like to be accustomed to. :D
