I'd go with the standard rifle configuration for practical use, and the PCC variant for personal defense. The .22LR chambering, while relatively cheap, is too weak for anything larger than raccoons and beer cans, and the AR-12 is far too finnicky with ammunition to be reliable.

But also remember that the ar is hella loud and in cqb your eardrums are going to disappear

I would actually prefer an AR9 for close range. Much less noise than a rifle or shotgun and still easily able to put a ton of lead on target.
But the 5.56 does offer more potential energy than 9mm.

The average ar pistol offers no advantage over a carbine. Still way to big to use as a traditional pistol. But I wouldn't mind one of those short barrel S&W AR22's.
