The Republican Party line has been twisted so much that anything that even remotely resembles social welfare or aid to groups of people is always shot down.
I remember seeing an old Republican poster from the 1950’s that supported workers unions and now, many (but not all) Republicans could care less about actually supporting all groups in society.
