Abortion is basic healthcare, especially in cases of incest and rape

Sure it's your body

Abortion is ok.
If someone's life can be put on the line just because of being raped or something, and they might not be able to survive, then abortion should be allowed.
I'm scared of what will happen next, because two Supreme Court justices have already lied under oath, and they might well ban LGBTQ marriage and all that stuff

SCOTUS is so corrupt now

Well...I try to remain neutral politically but...
I do believe that if the pregnancy is endangering the life of the person or the child inside the womb then, of course yer not gonna force someone to give birth because even if the child will survive, the person giving birth may not and...Honestly yea...I'd rather not speak my mind on this, it's a lot to say and...I can't explain anything-

Abortion is okay, but at a certain point it is child murder. I believe that point where it goes from okay to murder is four or five months in, but only if the baby is neither dead nor dying.

pro-choice!
2 ups, 2y
I think it’s a good thing sorta
It could bring trouble having a child a lot of the times, and not every woman wants one
1 up, 2y
I personally disagree with it unless in the case of rape, incest, or if the woman's life is in danger
1 up, 2y
My view of abortion is that it is okay.
[deleted] M
0 ups, 2y
people who want it should be able to get it, and people who dont should be able to keep their child
0 ups, 2y
Ik this was a month ago but I think abortion should be made a basic human right because there are all sorts of ways to fall pregnant in unwanted ways such as rape, and it's important that a woman has the choice to do what she wants with her body, if it means having an abortion let her. I personally don't agree with having an abortion because of the side effects but if it's necessary it should be available to get done. I'm not anti abortion cause of oH iTs A lIvInG bEiNg and all that shit, but I think if it's just because you had unprotected consensual sex and you don't rlly want the kid, it's not worth the side effects.

Abortion is good
0 ups, 2y
its not something that should be legal or illegal. i think that it has everything to do with the conscience of the parent and the person preforming the abortion. it should be an option, especially to those who need it (ex., if its for a medical reason. now that its illegal, if someone needs to have an abortion, its impossible, even for medical emergencies). if there aren't safe abortions available, then thats just another person's life put at risk.
that being said, abortion holds so much gray area; theres so much we dont quite understand. ig im not for it, but im not against it, either.

I like how basically no one against abortion has ever been in a situation where they felt the need to get one… the embryo isn’t conscious until way past the point an abortion would be happening. They’d just end up in foster homes instead, which is terrible
0 ups, 2y
Exactly, if the embryo is conscious at that point they can just be birthed early, since they would be alive enough for that to happen

i dont support abortion actually! unless someone was raped or underage i personally think its murder!

For the first few months the fetus has barely devoted at all and is nothing more than a bundle of cells, and removing it is comparable to removing a tumor
1 up, 2y,
1 reply
the cells are alive therefore it is alive, it is STILL murder
1 up, 2y,
1 reply
Murder is something that only applies to conscious humans
If killing any cells was murder, then why are you okay with clipping your nails? Cutting your hair? Developing the lifesaving technology to kill cancer?
0 ups, 2y,
1 reply
technically those things are already dead and cancer is necessary to kill if you want to survive
0 ups, 2y
Cancerous tissues are cells that are so alive they multiply uncontrollably, and for the first half of a pregnancy, the child has no ability to represent being alive or even have consciousness. When a miscarriage happens, the child is already dead and abortion is saving the life of the parent. When rape happens, abortion saves the mother from major trauma. In certain cases of alcohol or drug usage, or just pregnancy protection failure/misuse, the child is a mistake and can cause severe damage to the life of the mother, such as falling below the poverty line and life being very hard to survive, if it even can be.

Some people lose their job, their house, and end up living in their car on the streets because they had to feed children they were unprepared to support. Is this better than killing a tiny ball of cells before it can be properly classified as alive?
Up until birth, a child's actions in the mother's body is nothing more than that of an organ, showing no real signs of life until exiting the womb.
If the child is not developed to the point where they can exit the womb and survive without being directly attached to the body of another, they are not, by the scientific definition of life, a living being, and it is therefore not murder.

THEY”RE NOT GODAMN KIDS! Most people who get abortions do it because they won’t be able to take care of the kid. Also, if a 12 yo girl is raped, she’ll probably die giving birth. So are you suggesting that we just let her die so her corpse can *cough* ‘love’ *cough* the baby (who, chances are, may not survive)?

Then shouldn't vasectomy be illegal, if everyone started out that way?
0 ups, 2y
It's reproductive cells! Not a person!

In another comment you said sperm are reproductive cells and not a person, how is an embryo any different?

Going by your logic, so is a sperm. Are you going to say that vasectomy’s should be illegal?

What if they don't want to spend nine months needing extra food if they can barely afford food at all, just to add to an overpopulated world?
Poverty exists because there are too many of us, ironic how you think people in poverty should be forced to further overpopulated the world.
Or what if they don't want the risks of death from childbirth, which is a very real possibility and can kill both parent and child?
0 ups, 2y
What if their family is so poor that they don't have access to anything past basic healthcare?
Most poor countries are like this.

If they're still in the womb and completely depend on the umbilical cord to survive, they are not alive. They are a parasitic ball of cells that depends on the life of another, and are no better than cancerous tissue.

I don't think my message here is clear. If the fetus can be surgically birthed, and survive off of external inputs, they are alive. If they would die from an umbilical disconnect, they then fully depend on the umbilical cord to survive. In that case, their only difference from a parasite/organ/ball of cells is what they can become. They have not yet reached their potential, such that potential should not be considered in how they are treated.

Bold of you to assume my mother wants laws controlling her body
She fights for abortion rights harder than anyone I've ever met!
0 ups, 2y
If my mother and father couldn't support a child, I would rather never have been born than pull them so deep under the poverty line that we all starve to death when I'm two. If my mother decided she wasn't ready to have a child, and I wasn't developed enough to be birthed early and adopted out, I would not be alive yet, therefore I wouldn't have been killed. I would rather wait until a vessel was ready for my consciousness to inhabit whose life could be supported by their parents. If I had never been born at all, I would have lived a life long in the future.

Abortion is not killing, and I've done enough thought experiments to have faith I would live a life long in the future had I been aborted.
0 ups, 2y
And, considering abortion is THE ENTIRE REASON I'M ALIVE I'm pretty okay with it.
0 ups, 2y
You would rather a young person living below the poverty line gain an additional mouth to feed, and slowly starve to death under the responsibilities they didn't want?

It's better to kill a tiny parasitic ball of cells than both a parent and a fully developed and conscious baby.

Hello, I'm back again.
I had a "Moment" and I've come to a realization. I never should've given you my opinion on abortion.
Anyone who considers it, Has their own choice, Not mine. My dearest apologies for arguing with you over my own thoughts. It will not happen again.
My only reason was because that's how my grandchildren were born. My daughter-in-law was raped and she refused to abort the kids. Even when the doctors told her how slim her chance of survival was, She refused without hesitation. I have endless respect for her. But it does not give me the right to force that respect of opinion to anyone else, They must learn on their own.
It is never our place to choose for others, There's only one Life and everyone gets only One, You get your own, They get theirs, Each choose how they treat their own life. People may try to help and guide, But they should never choose for others. Whether it's sacrificing yourself or taking a life, It's your own choice.
Once again, My dearest apologies.

I respect that, and I see why you're so invested in anti-abortion. You've helped me better understand both sides of this topic.
My opinion isn't that abortion should be required, but like you said, everyone has a choice. The chances can get really slim, and some people don't want to risk their own life for a child they don't want or might not be able to support. We both have serious reasons for why we think the way we do, but shouldn't force that on others. Everyone needs a choice between risking everything they have for a child or working to make their life more stable to support future children without risk. Your grandchildren exist because abortion isn't required, and I exist because it wasn't banned, which is exactly why everyone deserves their own choice.

I've never felt abortion should be required, but your grandchildren bring up something I never thought about. Aborting a child to wait and have a different child in the future brings an amazing person into this world who is (hopefully) loved by their family, but choosing not to abort does the exact same thing.

Thank you, I learned from everything you have told me and I am glad that I am a little smarter than I was before I talked to you.
