I’d rather be slashed, because I son’s think the damage wore as deep, tho it is over a wider area, but an axe can render your arm completely useless

Swords have more firerate or as you say a faster hitting speed and it also has splash damage when not jumping which is hella useful againts multiple zombies, spiders, cave spiders

Fun fact: if you use the wrong tool for the wrong job (like using axes for fighting) that tool will take twice the durability.
