The Raven King stepped inside. A few ravens following him in as well. One rested on his shoulder, while the other stood as his feet. He had a metallic helmet, tightly covering his head. The eyeholes were dark and purple. That matches his purple parka-like clothing, with a hood, and a cape that went down to his knee level. "I need a room.",

"I am The Raven King. Due to my relationship with said creatures." He looked at the raven in his shoulder, who cawed. "Yes, you are a creature."

The night is perfectly, eerily silent.

In the morning, The Raven King is awoken by a very light knock on his door.

He slowly opened his eyes, getting out of bed. He put on his helmet, opening the door to see who was at the other side.

A new masked figure stands at the door.

'Sorry to disturb you sir, but I am obliged to ask if you would prefer eating breakfast in your room or in the dining hall. If you eat at all, that is.'

'I'm not hungry, I ate a week ago. I could go for about another week before needing to eat.' He nodded.

'Understood, sir. Again, sorry to disturb. And one last thing- should you find yourself in need of anything, there is a bell on your bedside table. It makes not a sound but alerts us all the same.'

The figure bows politely before leaving.

'Thank you.' He nodded, closing the door. He looked at the raven, staring at him. 'Don't look at me like that.' The raven shook its head. 'Well pardon me if you can only hear my thoughts.'

On the Raven King's bedside table there is also a mask with a note under it. Odd.

He grabbed the mask, looking at the note.

The note seems to be an invitation of sorts.
'Honored guest, you are hereby invited to the Banshee Hotel Gala. If you wish to attend, we must request that you wear the provided mask so that you are easily identified as a guest. The Gala is the one time when you are permitted to speak at the hotel, though you may only speak to the staff and not to other guests. And worry not. There will be music.'

He took off his helmet, putting the mask that was given on. The ravens tilted their heads in response.

A masked figure stands at the front desk. They look up.

A voice is heard in The Raven King's head as the figure points to a sign.
'I will forgive you as you are new here, but please respect the rules. You may simply think if you need to say something, us staff are telepathic.'

The sign has three rules on it.
Rule 1: Please do not speak.
Rule 2: Please do not enter restricted areas.
Rule 3: Please be kind to the staff and other guests.

He looked st the sign. And thought. 'My mind is not a safe place to enter.'

'We are careful beings. Now, would you like a normal or a deluxe room?'

He thought. 'Deluxe.' The raven on his shoulder began to caw, before he put a finger on its mouth, which shut the raven up.

The figure nods.

Another masked figure in an identical outfit approaches. There's no telling these people apart besides their hairstyles.

'Follow me, sir.'

He nodded. Following them. The raven at his feet follow.

The figure leads The Raven King up many stairs and down a hallway, stopping before a fancy door.

'Your room, sir.'

'Thank you.' He opened the door, the ravens following him in. The raven at his foot looked at the figure, before tilting its head and walking in as well.

The room is well-furnished, including such things as a fancy bed, a cozy fireplace, and a small, fully-stocked pantry.

...though the faintest scratching noise can be heard and there's traces of an odd smell. A rather foul one at that.
1 up, 2y
He looked around the room, trying to locate the source of the smell.

...the smell seems to be coming from the fireplace, which is currently lit. Perhaps something was on the logs.

He kneeled down, punching a piece of wood, breaking it off from the fire, and grabbing it, inspecting it.

...whatever was on the logs is long since burnt up. Nothing of interest to be seen.

He tossed it back into the fire. He then began to search for the scratching.

The scratching seems to be coming from the walls. Perhaps there are mice.

Unlike the pink-tinted, fox-like masks of the staff members, The Raven King's 'guest' mask is a nondescript wooden one. It does its job however, obscuring everything but his eyes.

His eyes are a mix of brown and purple, much like his outfit. He exits his room, the ravens following.

A masked staff member approaches and leads The Raven King to the ballroom where the gala is taking place. The moment the duo steps through the door the figure speaks.

"Thank you for choosing to come. You will not regret it."

...among the guests at the gala is a woman whose mask is unique from all the rest. She sits on the edge of the stage, away from everyone else.

He stared at them. A raven flew to her knee, tilting its head.

Another masked figure appears, indistinguishable from the first except their hairstyle.

'Follow me, please.'
