Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Overview:
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (also known as PTSD) is a disorder on which a person who witnessed a traumatic event has a hard time letting it go.
PSTD may last months or years to let go of, with triggers that bring back the memories of the event.
When the triggers happen, it will affect your physical and mental reactions.
Symptoms:
The symptoms of PTSD is quite simple
It will affect your mind space by bringing back nightmares and/or unwanted memories of the event.
People who suffer PTSD also have a tendency to try and avoid settings which brings back the memories (ex: a veteran may want to avoid shooting ranges)
PTSD also gives you a sense of anxiety and depression.
Treatments:
PTSD is most commonly treated with therapy and medications.
Most common therapy used is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing.
And the medications used for PTSD symptoms is SSRIs.
PTSD is very common in the United States with more than 3 million cases per year.
If you are diagnosed with PTSD, you must seek medical help.
If not and you feel like you do, feel free to get a medical diagnosis before getting any kind of medical help.
