I was real sad after she died. We went back to camp and I had trouble hidin’ my tears. I knew there was another pair of twins in the 2nd 8th Grade Regiment, but as far as I knew both of them were still alive. Then, Officer Russell called us up and told us we were join in’ th Siege of Petersburg. You would never believe what I had seen there. The Rebels were about to charge us, if they won this battle, they would win the war. They was flyin’ bombs and balloons at us, I saw a soldier get blown to smithereens in front of my eyes. Then, I saw something so odd. There was this pair of twin sisters, one was a Rebel in the 1st 8th Grade Confederate, the other was with the 3rd 8th Grade Union. We charged each other with bayonets, I dodged one guy. Those twins saw each other, and they suddenly paused and looked at each other, tears in their eyes. I have no clue how those fools survived. But they did, and when the battle was over, and the Union was victorious, they were hugging each other and sobbing. Heartwarming, I suppose.
