gay is the term for homosexuality. lesbian is women-specific and gay is more commonly used for men, but mlm can also be called vincian (i believe, please correct me if im wrong)

I've seen people from all across the LGBTQ spectrum just call themselves gay because it's simpler, or they like that term more.
I tend to call myself gay, even though I'm ace/demiromantic.
But some people do use what some might call the "proper" term.
