The hollow points expand when they impact so it's creating a much larger hole. Very nasty stuff. Armor piercing will generally go straight through and leave a much smaller hole.
And when you're shooting at someone, I can't think of any situation where you'd be concerned with breaking their bones. You're most likely aiming at vital organs.

Can 5.56x45mm be chambered in a rifle that's in .223?
0 ups, 3y
It will chamber and fire, but is not recommended, as it may cause higher than normal chamber pressure, which could damage the barrel. This link explains it better than I can.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/5.56%C3%9745mm_NATO#5.56mm_NATO_versus_.223_Remington

The reverse (.223 in the 5.56 chamber) is OK.

I don't think so. I don't know too much about them.

I don't know a WHOLE lot about guns but I know a good amount. Basically 5.56x4mm is in MM but .223 is 5.56 in Inches. Also they are both rifle caliber so its impossible to put them in SMGs as those use pistol calibers.Which explained the different between a rifle and a sub machine gun.

that's true, although you shouldn't put 5.56 in a .223 gun or vice versa. There's a difference in the force of the explosion, and a .223 gun might not be able to handle it like a 5.56 gun is designed to do. I don't know about putting .223 in a 5.56 though.

I think so yeah
There's also Pistol Caliber Carbines, which for example is an AR-15 that fires 9mm rounds instead of 5.56

By 9 mil, do you mean like 9x19 Para, 9mm Largo, 9x21mm or 9x18 Makarov?

Oh did you know that the MP5 is an HK weapon that's really REALLY POPULAR? It became a favorite of so many people, that HK tried to replace it TWICE. First time they did the iconic HK SMG 1 and 2, the second time they did the HK UMP45 which (because it's HK it's still expensive), the 45 was really cheap. But both times failed. There is a handguard to make the weapon into an MP5SD, which was used by the S.A.S in "Operation Nimrod".

9x19mm Parabellum, aka 9mm Luger (most American cartridge makers' name for it) or 9mm NATO.

"Green tip" (aka M855) does have a steel penetrator tip, but is not specifically designed to defeat body armor. Purpose-built armor-piercing is illegal for civilians to own. Also, the soft, lightweight body armor (so-called "'bulletproof' vests") often worn by LEOs can be defeated by most centerfire rifles, "armor-piercing" or not.

The hollow point expands on impact, thus creating a larger hole in the flesh. Armor piercing will go straight through, leaving a smaller hole. Because it expands, the hollow point will have more resistance while traveling through the body, leaving it to stay farther out. But the Armor point can travel more smoothly, with less resistance, so yes, it has a better chance of breaking bone.
