Shihuangdi, the first Chinese emperor, wanted to live forever, so he demanded his doctors found an elixir of immortality or something or they would be killed, they ''found'' the elixir and Shihuangdi drank it daily. He never realized he was drinking mercury and eventually died of mercury poisoning.
