HOLA. AS SOMEONE WHO DOES ART SEMI-PROFESSIONALLY, I HAVE A COUPLE OF ART TIPS FOR BEGINNERS OR PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN STRUGGLING IN ART, ESPECIALLY HAVING CONFIDENCE IN IT.
1. I STARTED OUT HATING EVERYTHING I DREW, NOT EVEN FINISHING SKETCHES IN FEAR THAT IT WOULD LOOK BAD, HERE'S THE PROBLEM, BY NEVER FINISHING MY ART I NEVER FOUND OUT HOW GOOD I CAN DO ART, SO, NO MATTER HOW BAD A SKETCH LOOKS WHEN IT STARTS, NO MATTER HOW BAD IT LOOKS WHEN IT STARTS, NO MATTER HOW BAD THE LINE ART LOOKS, NO MATTER HOW BAD THE COLOUR LOOKS, AND NO MATTER HOW BAD THE SHADING IS, STILL FINISH IT.
2. THE COLOURS, YES, YOU HAVE A BUNCH OF COLOURS, YES, THEY'RE PRETTY. BUT THE BEST COLOUR RATIO IS TWO WARM COLOURS, TWO COOL COLOURS. ONE LIGHT COLOUR AND ONE DARK. FOR INSTANCE ONE LIGHT BLUE AND ONE DARK GREEN ACCOMPANIED BY A LIGHT ORANGE AND A DARK RED. I WOULD TONE DOWN THE COLOURS MORE
3. NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF WHITE AND BLACK. THEY'RE BOLD COLOURS, AND THEY WORK WELL IN ANY SITUATION.
< SCROLL DOWN FOR MORE TIPS BELOW>; 4. VARIATION IN FACE SHAPE, DO ALL YOUR OC'S LOOK LIKE THE SAME CHARACTER BUT WITH DIFFERENT HAIR AND CLOTHING? YOU'D BE SURPRISED AT HOW EASY AND SIMPLE IT IS TO DO A DIFFERENT FACE AND EYE SHAPE.
5. CONSISTANCY, BEFORE I GET TO WORK ON ART, I USUALLY DRAW THE SAME CHARACTER OVER AND OVER TIL I CAN DRAW IT FROM MEMORY AND KEEP IT CONSISTANT.
6. DONT BE AFRAID TO GO NATURAL, YES, SOME OF MY CHARACTERS HAVE BLUE SKIN, SOME OF THEM HAVE BRIGHT GREEN HAIR, SOME OF THEM HAVE PINK EYES, BUT NEVER FORGET ABOUT THE NATURAL LOOKS.
7. SOMETIMES I'M DRAWING A REALLY GREAT SCENE BUT I GET STUCK ON ONE CHARACTER BECAUSE I CANT DO THEIR HAIR, IF YOU CAN'T SKIP IT, FINISH THE SCENE, AND COME BACK LATER.
8. ART IS OBJECTIVE.
9. YOU DON'T HAVE TO SHOW EVERYONE EVERYTHING OR BE PERFECT, I HAVE A SKETCHBOOK THAT SAYS "ART CRAPS" NOBODY SEES ANYTHING INSIDE OF IT, IT'S WHERE I EXPERIMENT.
10. IT'S NOT GOING TO BE PERFECT AT FIRST.
