Gravity is a natural force that holds things together (remember it doesn't pull down)
If you were in a complete vacuum (very empty place) you would float because there is nothing holding you down
Furthermore, if two objects were floating in that gravityless space, they would slowly (very slowly) move towards each other from each other's gravity
Note: Gravity is not something that pulls you down, but something that attracts mass together
That is why the earth was formed. A bunch of rocks in space that came together
[AND BEFORE YOU SAY "WHY ISN'T EARTH SMOOTH" it is because earth doesn't have infinite gravity
It's not like jupiter where you would get smooshed into a paste (people have a lot of water in them)]
