I would much prefer this place not to have to exist. And it wouldn't have to if everywhere or at least most places would simply accept people for who they are. But a lot of people are still being harassed, bullied, attacked simply for their very existence.
That is why these people with similar experiences tend to create safe spaces together and become a community. LGBTQ+ is one of these communities.
A lot of places have adopted rules against racism now but other issues like sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism are still widely ignored. That doesn't mean racism stopped existing, of course, but the discussion has come a lot further and usually there are rules to combat racism more generally.
The same cannot be said for many other issues. And as long as we're still generally marginalized and can't rely on a general consensus that we are normal human beings we still need places like this to take a break or to simply enjoy making memes without having to endure all the hate we face in other streams.
