Hinton vs Ornstein

Context:
Alistair Hinton is the heir of the music of Kaikhosru Sorabji. He is fiercely protective of the copyright of Sorabji's music and relentlessly strikes videos showing Sorabji's sheet music.
Severo Ornstein is the son of Leo Ornstein and is the heir of Leo's music. Severo embraces distribution of his father's music and has put it all on IMSLP under a Performance Restricted license.

Mr Ornstein has a perfect right - and an exclusive one - to place his father's work in the public domain if so he chooses, just as I have a right not to do so.

There are no restrictions to performance of Sorabji's music or of access to his scores and literary writings as these are all published and distributed by The Sorabji Archive (www.sorabji-archive.co.uk) which was set up for the very purpose of disseminating his work and information about him. Had that archive not been founded, access to almost all of this material would have been impossible; indeed, copyright strikes have been necessitated only because his material has been distributed by that archive and they are applied for only when uploads of his copyrighted material are made without consent having first been sought.

Editors/typesetters of Sorabji's scores likewise have rights in their editions.

As it happens, Leo Ornstein's music is for the most part NOT in the public domain; on the contrary, a statement on this has been issued on IMSLP, namely that "Mr. Severo Ornstein, the composer's son and copyright owner, has graciously granted permission for Leo Ornstein's works to be posted at IMSLP"; that is not synonymous with placing said works in the public domain which, in most cases and in most territories, they will enter at the close of 2072.

Pretty much as I wrote; that, however, is quite different from placing it all in the public domain, which he has a perfect right to do but has not done.
