80 years ago, in February 25th 1942, an excellent exponent of the legendary fighter family, the Spitfire Mk IX, took her virgin flight. This plane was yet to change the course of WWII, as it was the first of the Spitfires to be equipped with 20mm Hispano cannons and 4 0.5 inch M2 Browning machine guns. This set of armaments was what was required to face more modern German planes, instead of the old 7.7mm Vickers K machine guns.
