Why?

Th term "Big Cat" aside from childish is not very accurate. usually when people say big cats they refer to the cats of the genus Panthera (Lions, Leopards, Jaguars, Snow Leopards and Tigers). However, many people use the term "Big Cat" to refer to other large felids like Cougars or Cheetahs that, although large, are not part of the Panthera genus.

Big cat covers more species so I will use it

The problem is that its not very specific. Species should be grouped based on their genus and not some random and unscientific nickname invented by an obsessive cat lady that killed her husband (Carole Baskin).

Sorry for not knowing the origins of an unspecific term

The so called Big Cat "experts" dont even know how to taxonomically classify the animals of Felidae.

They're an expert on the species that they call 'big cats' not classifying the animals of felidae

They cannot be called experts if they know nothing of the evolution and biology if the felidae species they want to study.
