•Main: Tho, in my Au, Dream was a very smart kid ever since he was young, tho he doesnt know how to read (He has a good amount of knowledge and high IQ, higher than Nightmares to be exact), he disliked teh villager cuz he knew he was a battery to them. he did everything to protect Nightmare. He never left him alone. But on the day of the "accident" dream left to meet someone, his father figure. Dream was also trained my a Fairy Named Lanny*
Dream also is Good at combat and magic. Nightmare never really learned anything like that, after the corruption he was depended on his tendrils and Gang more.(Mix of Canon and headcanons)
•Shattered Au: as you said, Shattered is just dreams piled up emotions of negative emotions, since he cannot Feel them perfectly, he just tends to overlook them as his own aura tends to Fool him. It hurts him to. He never really bit the apple. Its just corruption from negativity in his soul.
