The Prime Minister, Scott Morrison, recently introduced the Religious Discrimination Bill which explicitly legalises expelling students from religious run schools on the basis of gender identity. It also would've allowed religious run hospitals to turn away LGBT patients, and religious run homeless shelters to turn away homeless people who are not cis straight. And allows religious run schools to fire teachers and staff based on sexuality or gender identity.
The religious right nationally - especially the Australian Christian Lobby and Family Voice Australia - are fuming that the bill was unsuccessful and think their religious freedom is under threat.
