An observation from an historical perspective. I’m from a different country, and thought that, if anything, Trump’s foreign policy views tended towards a form of aggressive isolationism before he was elected (aggressive in the sense of aggressively pursuing America’s perceived economic interests at the expense of spending to militarily defend its allies). That seemed to me to harken back to the interwar years, but just not officially espoused as a policy.
(Perhaps a view from outside the US just has a different perspective).
I do have a degree including modern history and politics (international relations). Just seems like the past repeating, and those policies had domestic popularity both in interest years and now.
It’s also interesting now that the US, India and Japan are now banding together to counterbalance China’s influence, whilst Russia is allied to China and showing that it wants influence in Europe. Japan defeated Russia prior to WWI, so this may spook Russia as well.
I think we’d all agree it’s best if there is no more war in Europe or Asia for the US to get involved in.
