In rare occasions, a protein in your brain can fold and become a prion. This will then cause other normal proteins in your brain to fold, clump, damage the brain, and cause prion disease. All prion disease cases are fatal and there is no cure.
Also, in early stages of prion disease, the patient is asymptomatic. Which means as you're reading this, a prion could be developing, or you already have prion disease and it just hasn't reached the stages where it shows symptoms.
