Actually, they didn't steal it. They just thought that because the rainbow has a spectrum of colors, that it would be a fitting symbol for a community with a spectrum of people. They don't own it and didn't try to own it. No one owns a rainbow, weather they are a god, goddess, or deity, its literally water droplets.

And I must remind you, LGBTQ is NOT a religion. It is a community.
