Because the "reform" candidate for governor, Homer Stokes, was a member of "a certain secret society" (the KKK), he would have been the democrat. So things don't really change much after all.
@bbb, at the time he might have been. "Pappy" O'Daniel would certainly have been a Democrat. However, that was then and this is now. The KKK backs the GOP these days, so the past doesn't matter.
