TLDR; Measured data substantiates Carl Sagan's claims 30 years ago that global warming is accelerating. Once we reach a certain point, we won't be able to fix it fast enough to sustain civilization as we understand it today.
"If I'd had more time I would have written a shorter letter."
I've seen that statement attributed to Mark Twain, but also that it's a false attribution. Dunno, just like it.
"A SEVERAL CENTIGRADE DEGREE TEMPERATURE INCREASE ON THE EARTH, GLOBAL AVERAGE, BY THE MIDDLE TO THE END OF NEXT CENTURY." -CARL SAGAN, 1985; SINCE CARL SAGAN HAS SAID THIS, GLOBAL TEMPERATURE HAS RISEN BY .9 DEGREES CENTIGRADE ( 0.12 C UP TO 1.02 C) YOU MAY LOOK AT THIS AND THINK, "NO BIG DEAL." BUT YOU HAVE TO UNDERSTAND HOW AVERAGES WORK... WE HAVE OUR SHARP OUTLIERS ON BOTH SIDES. REALLY COLD, AND REALLY HOT. THEN WE HAVE TEMPERATE AND SO ON. IN ALL THE PLACES MEASUREMENTS OF TEMPERATURE ARE TAKEN (WHICH IS EVERY CITY THAT SENDS ITS DATA FOR TABULATION) HOW MUCH HOTTER IS IT GETTING FOR IT TO RISE NEARLY 1 C. IN OUR POLAR REGIONS, WE'RE SEEING AN AVERAGE INCREASE OF 4 C, TODAY. OUR ICECAPS ARE WHAT KEEP OUR PLANET COOL. AND WE'RE LOSING THEM. WHAT HAPPENS TO A DRINK WHEN YOU LEAVE IT IN THE SUN WITH NO ICE DURING THE SUMMER IN LAS VEGAS, SUMMER 2021...? WELL... IT WAS 130 F IN VEGAS THAT SUMMER. YOU FIGURE IT OUT.
