it's complicated, but i don't think that was the case. the Soviets were getting ready to invade Europe, and Operation Barbarossa was a direct countermeasure. the thing that did Germany in was the Allies' offensives in Western Europe... they didn't have enough manpower and resources to fight a two front war.
